A few thoughts on Lawn Services

Following are some thoughts on how to improve your lawn. Most lawns are Kentucky Bluegrass.

Most people favour Kentucky Bluegrass; it is the grass we see on TV. KBG is a cool season grass. It thrives in Spring and Fall. Summer is a different story. KGB needs consistent watering in the Summer. A KBG lawn requires 1 1/2 inches of water per week plus normal rainfall (water deeply two or three times per week). If we are in drought (usually late July and into August) it requires double the normal watering. A lack of water and the Summer heat puts KBG under stress. Summer stress will cause the grass to go dormant. Unfortunately, weeds and crabgrass do not go dormant they can still grow in the Summer heat.

The simplest way to address this stress is cut height. We recommend a cut height of at least 2 1/2 inches. However, most owners are looking for a “manicured” lawn similar to a golf course green. That is not a realistic goal. Golf courses have access to controlled products that cannot be applied in a residential setting. Those controlled products make a significant difference on lawns. If they were available this email would be redundant. They are not. So, what we can do is raise the cut height.

A higher cut height prevents germination of most weeds and wild grasses. It also retains moisture better and encourages root growth. It is the easiest part of proper lawn care practices. A very quick method to determine height is this: drop a golf ball onto a lawn after a cut. If you need to stand over the ball to see it, and you can only see the top then the cut is fine. However, if you see more than the top at any angle then the cut height is less than 1 1/2 inches.

  POISON IVY TREATMENTS

A noxious plant that can cause an itchy, irritating, and sometimes painful rash when the sap comes in contact with your skin. This makes it a very difficult plant to remove conventionally since most methods would expose one’s self to it’s affects. Our product causes the plant to die, $125.00 per spray and we can also come to remove it safely ,$250.00 for removal includes the spray and must be prepaid.
